Persian  (American) Sarouk a classic 1930's hand woven rug in great condition and ready for a new home.

American Sarouks, also known as painted sarouk rugs, are a type of Persian rug woven for the American market during the early to mid-20th century.

The production of American Sarouks began in the late 1920s and peaked in popularity during the 1940s. They were hand woven primarily in the ARAK weaving district in western Persian modern-day Iran.

American Sarouks were heavily influenced by American rug dealers seeking rugs in deep wine red and dense floral elements. This contrasts the classic Persian Sarouk rugs, which are brick red and have more open fields and geometric designs.

American Sarouks were colored or "pained" to meet American color tastes. The brick red was often replaced with a wine red, a more desirable and fashionable color at the time. They typically have a central medallion surrounded by floral motifs. The color palette of American Sarouks tends to be vibrant, with deep reds, blues, and highlights of ivory and green.

While American Sarouks were altered to meet the Western rug market, they were crafted using high-quality materials and weaving techniques.

Many American Sarouks were sold to the floors of American homes; well known for their durability and dense pile. So much so that nearly a hundred years later, these rugs still grace the floors of many American homes.

While American Sarouks have lost their decorative desirability in modern homes in terms of craftsmanship and authenticity, they have gained a following among enthusiasts of vintage rugs. Vintage American Sarouks in good condition are affordable, durable, and, based on condition, last another hundred years on the floor.
